Summer in San Francisco: The Can’t-Miss Events Coming up This Season

Although the temperature might not be heating up anytime soon, summer is almost here. In the next few months, the neighborhoods around San Francisco will be hosting some of the most popular events of the year, from art fairs to holiday celebrations.

We’ve got the lowdown on the top happenings that you won’t want to miss out this summer, so browse our list and mark down a few of your favorites!

42nd Annual Haight Ashbury Street Fair

When: June 9th

What: The Haight Ashbury Street Fair, or HASF, has been filling the streets of San Francisco with peace, love, and happiness since the 1970s. It’s one of the most popular summer events in the city, bringing in thousands of visitors and hundreds of local vendors.

The 65th Annual North Beach Festival

Where: North Beach District

When: June 15th – 16th, 10am – 6pm

What: With 65 years under its belt, the North Beach Festival is regarded as one of the nation’s original outdoor festivals. Happening in the informal Little Italy of North Beach, the festival brings in over 125 vendors and food booths, two stages with live music, Italian street painting, kid-friendly activities, and more.

San Francisco Shakespeare Festival

When: Time varies

What: A non-profit organization that started in the 1980s, the SF Shakespeare Festival brings Shakespeare in the Park to the city. This summer, the cast and crew will be performing a musical version of the romantic comedy As You Like It, with music and lyrics from local composers and artists.

July 4th Celebration at the Pier

Where: Pier 39

When: July 4th, 3pm – 10pm

What: Ring in the 4th at the Pier, with live entertainment from Mustache Harbor starting at 3pm. Stick around until 9:30pm or arrive a few hours later, and watch the stunning fireworks display over the water!

Fillmore Jazz Festival

When: July 6th – 7th

What: The Fillmore Jazz Festival is the largest free Jazz festival on the West Coast. More than 100,000 people head to Fillmore Street to take in the 12-block long display of live music, art vendors, food and drinks, and more.

Outside Lands

Where: Golden Gate Park

When: August 9 – 11

What: Likely the biggest celebration of the season—and maybe even the year—Outside Lands is a wildly popular music festival, bringing in big names, some of the best flavors in the Bay Area, murals and sculptures from local artists, and so much more. A few names on the lineup this year include Childish Gambino, Paul Simon, Twenty One Pilots, blink-182, Kacey Musgraves, and Lil Wayne.

Eat Drink SFW

Where: The Midway

When: August 24th

What: Regarded by some as the best food and drink festival in San Francisco, Eat Drink SF brings in some of the top restaurants in the area for two tasting events, one in the afternoon and one at night. The ticket includes access to all of the vendors, so no need to bring your wallet along!
